Quite possibly one of the *best* OD's ever performed in Olympic competition...okay, okay, maybe a little too hasty, but I just can't seem to stop grinning when I watch this. This, IMHO, should have been placed 1st instead of 2nd, and frankly, they should have won the Nagano gold medal instead of silver (especially with that mistake by Gritchuk and Platov). Oh well. I love the lyric to "Five Months, Two Weeks, Two Days". Just great. Great personality, I know Anjelika has a tendency to overdo it, expression wise, as one commentator said, "She has the energy and expression to reach the eightieth row. Unfortunately, there are only forty-five." :)
So sad that there career was cut short by Anjelika's lower back spasms...I really feel they were really coming into their own in 1999. Will post my second favorite K/O program, that's their 1999 Worlds Freedance to "African Drums". Just so cool and reminiscent of my third favorite dance team ever: The Duschenays. Enjoy!

  • Great OD performance- but through the 3 phases of this competition, I have to give the Gold to Grischuk & Platov. I thought the medals were all awarded fairly. The complaint about this OD is that Angelika's arms appear to flail around, and I wish they would both skated further down into the ice with more bend in their knees. As for the FD, I have watched Gruschuk & Platov's "Memorial" a hundred times, and believe it was the best FD ever behind only "Bolero."

  • Well.... i guess.... :) As far as "Memorial" is concerned.. my problem with G&P had nothing to do with their skating per se.. (sorry fans, I just didn't believe them..I didn't "get" their Memorial Long program). But I have to say, in the words of Torvill and Dean, "They looked like Olympic champions". however, i still do regret K&O's early retirement..that 99 LP to "African Drums"..can watch that over and over again.

  • I love this program, and I would have given the whole 1998 Olympic gold K&O to them rather than to G&P, especially considering G&P's less than stellar CD performance, and those ugly linked besti squats in Memorial

As to arms flailing, it's a freaking jive, you are supposed to flail. It isn't a waltz.

  • Krylova is my favorite ice dancer of all time. G&P may have won everything 94-98, but if I recall correctly, K&O didn't make a single mistake in ALL their programs during the same period. They move on the ice so naturally that I don't even notice they're skating or doing difficult moves. They always *believed* in their programs and performed like it was the last day of their lives. Tracy Wilson did call it correctly that they should have won the gold IMO.

  • she almost killed him at 0.57-0.58 :-)

  • This performance was phenomenal and falls into line of some great OD's we've seen in just about every Olympics. Torvill & Dean's Paso Doble from '84 and Rumba from '94, Anissina and Peizerat's Tango/Flamenco from '02, Belbin & Agosto's Salsa from '06, and Virtue & Moir's Flamenco and Davis & White's Indian dance from '10. We've been treated to some great performances over the years.

  • Sorry. You can argue the final result all you want, but for me, there's no justifying K & O not winning the original dance outright. This performance was flawless, expressive, fun and had fantastic choreography. I loved it and I never get tired of watching this. I don't particularly like the free dances from either team, but there was a clear winner in this segment of the competition and it was NOT G & P. IMHO.

  • agreed, so true

  • It's too bad that they lost in a split panel. They should have won the OD and at least one CD hands down IMO.

  • Does anyone know who choreographed this dance? I see that Linichuk was their coach.

  • Simply wonderfull!!!

    I love them!

  • I wish they had at least won the OD segment. Grishuk/Platov's FD was amazing, but I really liked Krylova/Ovsiannikov's Carmen.

They definitely get into the music here. Yes Krylova is a little OTT, but I almost think it works here.

Her injury was such a tragedy. The Battle of Carmina Burana would have been something for the ages.

I think K/O were the last great Russian ice dance team. Their African Drums FD was fantastic.
