Eastleigh, apart from the domination of the area by high number of Somali refugees is known for four other things: The mushrooming of high-rise apartments and shopping malls,a vibrant black market where you can buy anything from a gun and exchange dollars, Khat (Known locally as Miraa) and Evictions!!!!
The evictions have targeted mainly the poor (who are mainly born and bred residents) and even public utilities have been sold off. All these to pave way for the highrise apartments and shopping malls that benefit the Somali refugee community that has taken over the neighborhood.

You're telling me that welfare money is fueling the building boom in Kenya? If so then boy do Somalis know how to turn a penny into a dollar :D

  • build low cost housing ----wtf

  • kenya needs to control the of land in kenya foreghners should not be allowed to buy property for real eastate only companies like it was in kenyattas day if they don't control this there will be an uprising and by the way this foreigners are being helped indirectly by the un to control kenya but the un is doing nothing for kenyans and we are the ones hosting this foreigners they are building property because they get welfare(free rent food) in US and then they send the extra to kenya

  • They really developing places that have been ignored and would have been a ghetto slam into a world class business and market center. they government should thank these Somalis and build subsidized houses for this poor kenyans.

  • I hope they dont lash out on the Somali business people there for they have done much good for Kenya than anyone else. On the other hand poor people should not be evicted and dumbed on the streets. The govt is corrupt and hopeless...
