I know I should just be glad I'm Vegan but watching this still makes me feel horribly sad. It doesn't help that I know they're not being treated that badly for my food, their suffering -whatever and whoever causes is - is depressing and saddening as it is.

95% of north american eggs are battery farmed, I'll keep my backyard hens.

I don't think there's a farmer alive who would find these conditions appropriate. I grew up on a farm and we never raised chickens like this. Each one had it's own nest, no cages, and plenty of room to range. But the consumer always wants a bargin...so please be careful about your choices.
