Children deserve schools that are beautiful, filled with art, interesting colors, shapes and textures.

Children deserve schools that are balanced; where creativity and literacy have equal status and where wonder is treasured.

Children deserve schools that are comfortable; with cozy spots for solitude and welcoming spaces where groups can gather.

Children deserve schools that are responsive to their questions, ideas and concerns.

Children deserve schools that are flexible; free of rigid schedules and the one-size fits all curriculum.

Children deserve schools that are open; where learners are invited to explore the world beyond classroom walls.

Children deserve schools that are respectful of the individual; where personal best is emphasized rather than competitive comparisons.

Children deserve schools that are inclusive of learners with diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Children deserve schools that are sustainable; where simplicity and service to others are embedded in daily life.

Children deserve schools where parents and teachers who maintain high expectations of themselves and their children, who are patient, and who are not discouraged by failure, or afraid to love.

  • Carolynwk, considering the vast emotional difference between YOUR definition of "attacking" and "disagreement", it is much like Mark Twain's comment "one man's common sense is another man's belly laugh."

As to my concerns: dream, wonder, beautiful, inclusive: all nice ideas that have nothing to do with learning. It is sad the such positive emotions can have such a negative effect on kids education.

Doubtless, you are either a K-6th grade teacher or an ED College Professor, which?

  • In my account I determine what interaction takes place here. I did not censor your ideas because you did not post any ideas.

I wrote to you and invited you to post a remark that would lead to discussion.

I strongly disagree that positive emotions have a negative effect on education.

A rigorous education with high expectations for students and teachers is not the antithesis of an inclusive and supportive community. Self knowledge and knowledge of the cannon arn't mutually exclusive.
