When "Guitar Boogie" went to radio in 1948, it became Arthur Smith's first hit song and one of MGM's first hit singles.

  • Very interesting. When you think about it, those artists that were not known for their singing but more for songwriting or playing an instrument did not reach very high on the charts BUT for a few like Arthur, Chet, Floyd, Boots and a handful of others.

  • You can really hear Arthur Smith's influence on rockabilly years later. Not only did he mix country boogie into the Western Swing style (similar to the way that Jazz artist's mixed boogie into jazz tunes), but he developed many of his own signature licks.
