Handpainted with several ordinary domestic gloss roller, a Triumph Stag. Paint is custom mixed carmine red oil based Combicolor Rustoleum. no orange peel after colour sanding. 2 years on: No fade, no chips, and a shine to die for. Cost? About £250 including all materials. Could be done cheaper, but I'm a perfectionist. Done a panel at a time in a small garage attached to house ( which I why I could not spray ). No smell, no hassle from wife. Front panel shows paint color sanded with 1500 grit before polished with Meguiars DA electrical orbital polisher.

  • Fantastic paint job , best I have seen. I have a stag that I want to paint so can I ask you , did you use a brush in areas that you could not use a roller?and if so did you still use 5/2 paint mix?

    Thank you for your time

  • @tilidieimforest I used a foam brush, not bristle, and one use only, same mix of paint, though it did orangepeel.

  • did you use something like terpentine oder white spirit or did you just use the combi color without anything else?

gonna give it a try my self on this weekend. But i will blow it through the gun on my compressor

  • @Freizeitschranzer

I used the smelly white spirit, the odourless white spirit has oils in it that slows down the drying too much.

No experience of spraying it, but understand from other users its not really suitable for spraying, you have to thin it down too much, and because of that, drips more likely to develop due to long drying times.

  • Your car looks beautiful!! I have '91 Buick Skylark I want to do by hand. Can you please explain colour sanding. Thanks!

  • @kekambas79 You probably know it as color sanding, colour is the British spelling. Lots of articles if you google color sanding, but basically it is the process of removing orange-peel with fine wet grit paper.

  • wowww niceee how long did that take you??? congrats man

  • very nice job . .

  • I cant believe what i see, its too perfect to be true

  • @ratrace2p51 No idea sorry.

  • @MrSexualFury About 20 days

  • is that acrylic or enamel rustoeum??

  • How did it take you to get this job done?

  • @mctapout187 When I bought mine it cost about £250 and they were difficult to get hold of because of high demand, but now I think you can get the G220 for about £150, but you'll need to buy a backing pad for the sanding disks ( I used UPOL disks). The disks attach to the pad using velcro. The cheaper disks don't last as well as the UPOL disks.

  • @hazellprivateeye how much did the g220 cost?

  • @mctapout187 Yes I had orange peel, I sanded down between coats with 600 grit to reduce the buildup. For the final coat I used 1500 grit, then polished with a DA polisher (Meguairs G220), using the Meguairs SFX range

  • im doing this to my car with gloss white, 1=did u have orange peel? 2=how did u remove orange peel and with what grit sand paper? 3=what compound and polish did u use? 4=best looking roll on paint job ive seen on yutube

  • @reuben81343 Orange peel is a certain kind of finish that may develop on painted surfaces. The texture resembles the bumpy surface of the skin of an orange (fruit) hence the name.

  • whats orange peel?

  • simply stunning, one of the best roller paint jobs I've seen on here. I have a full size jimmy I want to do this spring but it's gonna be a huge job....

  • @jeanvill1 About 1.5 galloons, many many hours of work, lost count, probably > 200 hours.

  • How many gallons did you use on your beautiful car? About How many hours of painting and wet sanding do you guess you have in this wonderful paint job? Looks very glass like. I bet you get plenty of looks. huh?

  • Wow that looks great....paint my car please.
