This is a test of the Kodak Zx1 digital camcorder.

The video includes Ants, Spiders and Flowers.

The video was recorded at 60fps and at a resolution of 720p.

The camera performs really well in reasonable/good lighting but excels in bright sunlight. The great thing about this camcorder is that is will record at 720p 60fps.

You do sometimes see some wobble where the image processor struggles to keep up with hand movement, there is no image stabilisation

The colour reproduction in the Kodak Zx1 is excellent, you can see that it copes really well with very colourful scenes and display little to no bleeding.

As is usual with Kodak the image sensor produces clear and precise images. Unfortunately the still image function on this camera is a little disappointing, the sensor has clearly been optimised for video, but sin this is a camcorder the image function is fine for the occasional shot.

The camcorder records directly onto an SD card in Mov format -

Video:
Frame Size = 1280 x 720
Compressor = Ambarella AVC encoder

Audio:
Format = 16 bit - Stereo
Rate = 48,000.0000 Hz
Compressor = MPEG 4 Low Complexity AAC

This format easily imports into Adobe Premiere CS3 and I suspect other editing programs. I tried to use the program bundled with the camcorder but it was a little clunky but certainly adequate for simple editing tasks.

At the time of writing this camera was only £50.
