In this episode we get our feet wet with the muted thumbpicking style of Chet Atkins. If you like this style, check out the Tabs, books, videos and CDs by John Standefer at www.jounstandeferf.com. Also remember that John teaches lessons via Skype!

  • JOHN,

    Please help me.

What is the title of the song sample you play at 3:03 to 3:14 of this video? (in A minor)

I know it, I just can't think of the title.

    Thank you, a fan

  • The tune you are referring to is 'Charade' (Henry Mancini's theme to the movie of the same name). Chet played it on 'Chet Atkins Goes To The Movies' back in the early '70s and it stuck with me. - JS

  • On the 'Chet Atkins' Licks & Tricks video at 2:41 I'm playing a bit of 'Anything Goes' from my 'Guitar Cafe' CD. There are a lot of nice arrangements on that recording. I don't have a TAB chart available for that tune. A similar one though, if you want to take a look, is 'Chattanooga Choo Choo'... Thanks, John

  • great sound from that guitar

  • @tubegucker1 Yeah, that darned Bertoncini fixed me up pretty good with that signature guitar! Thanks... JS

  • I'm so glad that you're still making videos! Your tips have really helped me. Keep up the great work!

  • @phihungnoowin Sometimes I think that I put all this stuff out there in cyberspace and nobody is listening. Then I'll get a comment like this or through an email and it always makes my day. Thanks... John

  • sir,it`s people like yourself with their patience, and guidance that help others like myself to truly enjoy playing, listening and appreciate the beauty of a guitar.Thank you so much!!!

  • Very interesting. I play mostly John hurt pieces (when I play fingerstyle), and it's pretty amazing how similar these techniques are. Can I assume Travis/Atkins picking drew inspiration from piedmont/country blues?
