If you read about Brendel, he insists that he is bound to be faithful to the composer. That may explain why he plays the way he does compared to other musicians. Also, Brendel is one of the best pianists alive. I wish I had a chance to hear him live before he retired.

I wonder if you really know who you are critizising here? Alfred Brendel is one of the, if not the best performer of Schuberts piano work. He would know the tempi, don't you think?
