The Mysteries of Asia three-part video series was originally produced for the Learning Channel. During this segment, historians and others examine temples built in India more than 1,000 years ago. They remain quite intriguing, though today's tourists rarely visit them. Records reveal that trained elephants had to drag millions of stone blocks to help erect these structures. The program notes that due to the temples' size, the U.S. Senate, Versailles, the Houses of Parliament, and St. Paul's Basilica in Rome could all fit within a single one of them. Michael Bell narrates as footage and animated maps are used to help viewers learn more about what these ancient structures look like and why they were built. Asia is a continent steeped in ancient cultures, religions, and buildings. In this intriguing program, we are transported to this exotic land and examine the mysteries behind some of the most fascinating structures found there. Southern India has the largest temple complexes ever built. In "Lost Temples of India", we examine these 1,000-year-old temples adorned with intricate and beautiful sculptures. We learn how the kings used large herds of trained elephants to drag the millions of stone blocks into place and how these temples are virtually unknown and unvisited by Western tourists. Truth or fiction, the stories of Mysteries of Asia will amaze and delight.

  • It seems like the Europeans were real FOOLS!

They liked Taj Mahal, which they called as Muslim architecture, the fact is, there in NO whatsoever mention of Islamic architecture in religious books of Muslims!

These architecture have been borrowed by hindus..

Infact, the first ever mosque built in Islamic world is at KERALA, INDIA!!

Taj Mahal, is originally a HINDU SHRINE of Lord SHIVA!!

The history is distorted, and Europeans have have added fuel to the fire.

  • overall its a gud doc but do contain some very wrong information.its obvious tat still today the westeners regards the magnificent indian civilization inferior to them.they recount indian history with a very western conception.cud have been made more accurate n the presenter done more research.

  • The only thing is that we people can never frame such Documentary... we don't know the real imp of our inherited valuable culture ...just think that if foreigner(an alien) can come and

discover this much how much we can do being a host of such an incredible culture and civilization.....Agree or disagree but a true fact is that we haven't keep up the great going and researches of our religion...my que if Aryabhatta was an Indian who discovered zero why it wasnt an Indian to discover the rest?

  • i doubt this a DISCOVERY documentary ??

  • I expected that they show how temples are lost to muslim tombs and mosques.. but this narrator altogether has confined knowledge and how on earth can he dare speaking about centuries old culture and civilisation without complete understand about the basic concepts about the pure Indian way of civilisation and beliefs ??

  • who even cares what europeans like and admired.. whether it's one muslim god or thousands of hindu gods.. it appears controversial, misleading and even mis-informed rather less knowledgeable documentary of less worthy concern !!

  • @vic86m they don't need to talk about construction in order to build. Construction has always been in man's imagination. Islamic architecture was influenced by sassanid and byzantine civilisations. Although India has one of the most beautiful styles of architecture, you cannot say that it is the root of every other style in the world.

  • I loved the entire series, i could have never seen my own country with eyes of a european neutrality.

Southern India, the true india, build by Great RAJA RAJA, Hats off to the man who built so many magnificient structures and buildings way back 1000 years... with such a precision and detailed architure... WOW... is a too small word to describe it...

May the joy be with all.

Love the world, Love my India.

    Cheers

  • @Zaoozas

As i mentioned earlier, There is NO place for Constructions and buildings in Islamic books.

Everything is derived from vedic religions.

Also, what we hear today about taj mahal, i.e 20000 people employed, their hands been cut off etc etc are all a travellers accounts, his name is "Traninvier". If your read his accounts carefully, he says, "The cost of SCAFFOLDING of Tejomahalay is more than what it was created for" This says it all!!!!!

  • @vic86m i'm no muslim, but I just want to correct your sayings.

the first and oldest mosque is the Quba mosque. the one in Kerala is the oldest in India.

Also, the Taj Mahal is inspired by persian architecture, the creators of the Timurid and Mughal domes.

  • @vic86m Europe will wipe their pagan gods off the map, by making them taste the edge of steel.

  • @vic86m really? ommmgeeee plz message me more!
