During the 1981 Talent show rehearsal we were backstage practicing and all of a sudden we hear this amazing voice from Ewart Hall. We went to see who was singing better than Barbra Streisand, it was Lamya. During the few days before the show we made friends with her, we liked her and she like our songs and she joined us in the Gama Show. Fortunately the Gama Show was taped as well as the songs we wrote (myself and Raed Baddar) in Raeds basement.
After graduation lost touch and found her in NY where we were going to meet and then lost touch again. I was always looking for her all these years so I could record again but unfortunately when I found her she was not here.
Classically trained as an Opera singer, she possesses a five octave vocal range. A remix of her song "Empires" hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 2002.
Singing lead vocals on "Break 4 Love" by DJ Vaughn Mason in 1991, the song led to her singing lead vocals for Soul II Soul. From there, she joined Duran Duran on the Wedding Album tour in 1993. Her standout performance was the re-worked live version of their song "Come Undone", as performed on tour and on the band's MTV Unplugged appearance, aired in December 1993. She also performed with David Bowie and James Brown.
In 2002, Lamya released her first album, Learning From Falling. She produced and composed the songs, using poems she had written since age 11.
She passed away on 8th January 2009 in Oman, her home country.
She had Lymphoma.

  • The talented young lady seen here can impossibly be Lamya Al-Mugheiry, who would have been all but 8 years old in 1981.

That in turn dramatically increases the chances of her still being alive - even if I'd imagine the proverbial needle in the haystack to be easier to find (that one would still react to a strong magnet at least ;)).

There always is an arbitrary number of talents who never appear in public, I guess.
