More Americans are are finding themselves living out of their cars. David Robbie has been a participant of Santa Barbara's Safe Parking Program for about six months. The program allows him to park his car overnight in private and municipal parking lots. Because of the freedom his car allows, Robbie prefers living in it over living in a homeless shelter. From the series The Changing Face of Homelessness.

  • Folks a van would be best for this? Get a heater buddy they cost~$80 uses propaine it has sensors to detect low oxygen and will shut off if levels get low. It might be a way he can save money on fuel in his car. If I were he I would start driving east take the highways so he would not have to stress his car at high speeds. He is right the south has affordable apartments but he would be better off buying a used camper and a slice of land. Or build a tuk tuk motorhome gogle that see what I mean?

  • There is land U can buy for what this man spends in fuel. There are many ways to get a slice of your own. Tax sale, find a farmer that is willing to sell a slice of land. We got our land from a realator $32K with a trailer on it. We were able to move in immediately this was in 01 there are deals out there U have to be willing to take what U can get. The neighbors were assholes but we learned to be bigger assholes and they left. The place next door is owned by Mxcans now they mind their bwax.

  • @mikeb634 THE GOVERNMENT DONT CARE ABOUT ME OR YOU OR THE GUY IN THIS VID. GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED ALOT OF AMERICANS AND ITS SAD. WHO WOULD EVER KNOW ONE MAN CAN FUCK UP SO MUCH IN SO LITTLE TIME! GOES TO SHOW PEOPLE BE CARE FULL FOR WHO YOU VOTE/ WANT AS PRESIDENT! WHAT AN EYE OPENER!

  • and just think about all the various abandoned military bases we have around the country that have between 12 to 1500 houses on them that are just going to waste.......why doesnt our government make these places available to be used for the homeless.....even if they charged a little rent it would be better for everybody in the long run....just sayin

  • The biggest problem i face on the street is nutritional deficiency.I don't drink,do drugs or pot. I found that eating sugar/bread/pasta/wheat/dairy/chocolates really causes the same problem as what i can see in alchoholics/drug users. If i eat just vegetables and eggs and meat i feel really good. This is very, very important and one of the ways homelss people can start to improve.A friend of mine used to drink methylated spirits. He was dying so he quit and saved his pension to buy a new van.

  • I'm "homeless" living in a vehicle for 9 years now in australia and we suffer the same problems as in the U.S.A. Our house prices and rents are the most expensive in the world right now. I was made homeless by job loss and divorce.I have had a few jobs over the years but they always end due to the changing economy. Ichose to stay in my van when i found a job and that allowed me to save money to "upgrade" from an old van to an old isuzu box truck. You have to think like a soldier.

  • God Bless you brother, your heavenly father loves you.
