  • Im sure in the future centurys we will find a way to terrafom venus by blocking some sunlight perhaps with an asteroid placed between the sun and Venus casting its shadow on Venus , and then seeding the atmosphere with some type of chemicals causing it to rain. Im sure in time we will be able to do this, and the same with Mars I think its just waiting for us to seed it with life. This would be more likely then travelling to another solar system they are just too far and may always be.

  • @jimmyjaqmmer the Run away Green house effect on Venus is not to the direct sunligt but because of the CO2 atmosphere and the Thick Sulferic Acid clouds layers...its acts like green house allowing the sun's radiation in but blocking it from escaping to space again, so over the past hlaf a billion years it the temperature to build up..you are right in terraformaing Venus, one way as was suggested to plant green Algee that lives on CO2 and give us back Oxygen, so venus atmo can be cleaned up !!

  • Very good video I must say. However, the Magellan scientist missed a point. There's evidence that proves early Venus had oceans of liquid water. It is closer to the sun, but the early sun wasn't as bright and as hot as it is today, so it wouldn't have caused water to evaporate at such a rate.

As the sun's outer layers gradually expanded, and as its heat increased, a runaway greenhouse process was created on Venus.

  • Ocean of water did exist but the runaway green house effect is started 500 million years ago on Venus so probably there was liquid water just b4 that tiime and evaporated as vapour, together with the CO2 in the atmosphere caused the runaway green house

  • @KurdstanPlanetarium Whats the evidence that says the greenhouse effect occurred 500 million years ago? JW

  • @lamjer68 well Astronomers know the rate of crater making, and for that they can judge how old a surface maybe.Moon and Mercury are heavily cratered surface indicating an ancient surface. but Venus like Earth a dynamic planet, so its surface continiously being changed and by counting number of craters they managed to guess it to be the last 500 million years..this happened at the same time with volcanic eruptions that pumped enough green house gases into atmosphere that made Venus run wild..

  • @KurdstanPlanetarium Isnt Crater evidence a moot point because Venus resurfaces itself every so often? With there being no plate tectonics, excess heat would build up over hundreds of millions of years before the entire surface would melt and reform. though Personally i would like the idea that Venus had not only oceans but life in the distant past

  • I saw a 20 minute video on Venus somewhere on YT recently. Can anybody send me it?

  • If this scenario is correct then an enrichment of the hydrogen isotope deuterium should exist in Venus's atmosphere, and this had, indeed, been found by the Magellan space probe (though it could have been Pioneer - I forgot).

As the planet resurfaced itself, it settled with the furnace-like conditions as we know it today.

  • Also: as the water vapour in Venus's atmosphere increased exponentially a point was reached when temperatures would have reached around 1,000 degrees Celsius - and thus melted.

The water vapour molecules were split into atomic oxygen and diatomic hydrogen by the high temperature. Oxygen was chemically combined with lava to form all kinds of oxides, and most of the hydrogen leaked away into space.
