The weekend of May 1-2, 2010, Middle Tennessee experienced a record rainfall resulting in massive flash floods.Thousands were forced to evacuate their homes. Unfortunately most of the emergency shelters would not
accept animals. Pet parents had no choice but to leave their precious dogs and cats at nearby shelters. Plus many of the shelters were taking in animals
rescued from the rising water. As a result, the shelters were in desperate need
of food to take care of the dogs and cats until they could be reunited with
their families.
The Nutro Company responded with 48 pallets of dog and cat food from the manufacturing site in nearby Lebanon, Tenn. Two tractor trailers of food, equaling 52,800 lbs of dog and cat food, arrived at the corporate site in
Franklin, Tenn in a matter of days. From May 5-8, 2010, associates volunteered
sorting, loading and sometimes delivering food to 10 shelters, rescues and
nonprofit across four counties, which were declared Federal Disasters. Throughout the week, associates also donated items, including cleaning supplies, food, diapers, etc... for flood victims. The donated items filled a cargo van and were delivered to a local nonprofit for distribution.
