The Leyland Olympians for SBS Transit were the last buses that worn the Leyland badge after Volvo's takeover of British Leyland in 1991. 200 of them were bought by SBS Transit and were delivered in 1993 and 1994.

They were also the first 'Superbuses' to ply the roads of Singapore with SBS9000S being put into service in December 1993.

These buses were fitted with a 10 litre Cummins LT10 turbocharged engine that cranks out 252 bhp and comes with Walter Alexander Royale Bodywork.

This year, they celebrate their 15th Annivesary on the roads in Singapore and here's a tribute to not only Singapore Bus Fans but to Leyland Olympian fans worldwide.

They can be found in the west area of Singapore, serving the unniversity shuttle service 179, 199 and some cross-town routes such as Service 157, 143, 30, 51 and 197.

  • UD+ Leyland at 0:13= Super old buses

  • @Jake9360 Their engine: the sound of it. Also, Volvo Olympians have standing space, but Leyland Olympians do not...

  • So far I noticed 179 has the most of these in normal service.

  • And 166 still have 1 or 2

  • These bus still run on 168, infact a lot of them are running on 168 but I sometimes I still manage to take Leyland Olympians on 21 although its super rare to take one on Svc 21.

  • I don't like Volvo-engined buses, especially the ones with TD102KF. They are just powerless compared to the Cummins LT10 found on Leyland Olympians. Here in HK I hate riding on Volvo Olympians equipped with TD102KF and DIWA863. I love the sound of the LT10 and the durability of it. All of the remaining Citybus Leyland Olympians are still very good in terms of performance.

  • ya 161 hougang to woodland

  • Same with the Leyland Olympians with service 143 when it's joining the PIE at Toa Payoh. Really love these engines.

But I absolutely hate to ride Volvo Olympians on expressways. I honestly feel I can cycle faster. :) Feeling nostalgic about the Leylands now, hope they don't disappear too fast.

  • Leyland Olympian are noisy & most of it had a rear window on the upper deck. Volvo Olympian are less noisy & there is no window at the rear.

  • that is 161 it passes through the mental hospital
