On December 19, 2009, an historic silent protest organized by Companion Animal Protection Society- http://caps-web.org- and attended by 70+ concerned citizens and representatives of organizations took place. We walked the Westside Pavilion in West L.A. showing the despicable store called Barkworks, who is supplied by puppy mills, that they cannot hide in a mall anymore.

Dogs in puppy mills are kept in cages their entire lives, being bred until they're dead, never knowing the joy of being a dog, all for callous human greed. Please don't spend an enormous amount of money in a pet store for a new family member. Always ADOPT and SAVE A LIFE!

  • One of the dogs Barkworks sold last week DIED this morning, Christmas Eve in a hospital. We have the evidence, Barkworks sells dying dogs.

  • OH NO!!! :(

  • You GUYS Are Fucking Retarded.I work at the WestSide Barkworks. We have number 1 store cause all are puppies are healthy and not from puppy mills we sale 3 puppies a day...Stop watching the news and really get real information about our company!

  • @Tinker29909- Nice language, young and uniformed one.

Investigations have proven the Barkworks puppies come from known cruel puppy mills that have more than a few violations on their records, or we would not even be there. You should do your homework about where your workplace TRULY gets the puppies from, if you even care. It is fact and it is well-known and documented.

There is a puppy from your store right now clinging to life at an animal hospital.

  • You know - they kept telling Peter to stop filming 2- It bugs me they asked you to stop. Sweet Pam. we have to put some music to this- ;-P

    luv u

  • @strangestangels - But it is the silence that speaks as loud as war! That is from a Van Halen song, but it fits. Did you hear me say "uh-uh" when she asked me if I was filming? ;P Like she didn't know. Luv u, girlfriend! xo

  • I work in a store in The Westside Pavilion. Whenever anyone says that they are going to the pet store in the mall, I always tell them about the Animal Shelter just a few blocks west, on Pico between Corinth and Purdue (just west of Best Buy). They are always were grateful for this information. The next time that you demonstrate in The Westside Pavilion have this information on your shirts.

  • You're so ignorant! It's hilarious! And trust me, you WILL see us again and again until it closes down and you no longer have a lame mall job! Go to school honey and get a real career!

  • @Stewartx5, you can only be one thing...an employee. The USDA oversees (yeah right like they have time and manpower) commercial breeding which are defined as puppymills. The allowance of up to 1000 breeding animals living the entirety of their lives in wire rabbit hutches is abuse. Although Barkworks may be purchasing from what's "legal", it's UNETHICAL!!! You have Noooooooooo idea how many sick, dying and dead animals arrive to those deplorable and improperly run stores. Do your homework. Shut

  • How do you know this particular store's puppies come from a commercial breeder who actually mistreats dogs as you describe? Animals get sick or die all the time, so one sick animal does not prove that. Regardless, in my experience, most independant breeders, inexperienced and ill-informed, are often as bad or worse.

  • @mhuggs ITs still open dude, i was just there today.

  • i went to this store and the puppies all were sleeping in the cages . and in one cage there was poop on it . pretty gross. And the shop seemed under manned. There was just one person in the cash register. And the dogs kinda smelled. I guess they dont shower them. But there were many cute doggys tho.

  • Wonderful!

We currently have 4 pekingese adults in our rescue who are former mill breeders. Rock on people!!!!

  • I was at a mall see some people bringing their puppies and they seemed to take good care of them as far as I seen and hopefully they will.

  • thats really cool what you guys did, we have a store like that around where i live too.. :(

  • Barkworks smells so repulsive that I'm surprised that people would even want to go inside. Seriously, just walking by the place makes your stomach turn.

  • @Hobo26

That's an illogical suggestion, sir. If you "rescue" the puppies from the pet store, you in turn contribute to the source. That's shooting yourself in the foot, running in circles.

To stop puppymills. To stop the cruelty, and to stop people paying for cruelty and overpaying for poorly bred animals, you must educate the public and cut off the income for pet stores and their buddies.
