2009 Humanitarian Youth Real Hero

Madeline Jane Massey kept her cool when her mother, Ashley, had a seizure while shopping March 3, 2008 at a Wal-Mart. She recognized her mom didn't look well and suggested they head to the checkout line. On their way, her mom's upper body began to convulse and she began to spin in circles. When the 10-year-old saw her mother was going to fall, she managed to grab her left shoulder and cushion the fall.

Maddy remained calm until EMTs arrived, giving them a detailed account of what happened. The paramedics and the manager at Wal-Mart told Ashley how heroic her daughter's actions were and that her concussion from the fall could have been much worse if not for Maddy's quick reaction.
