Green Postbox Debate (2/2)

Ógra Shinn Féin took to the airwaves this week as the green post-box campaign received its latest backing from DUP MLA Jim Wells.

Mr Wells had contacted BBC talkback in relation to green post-boxes in Newcastle County Down. In response to an irk display from Wells, National organiser of Ógra Shinn Féin, Barry McColgan came on air to the defence of those involved in the campaign and re-iterate Ógra's position on the campaign.

What is wrong with painting the postbox?

Postboxes are painted green in the free part of Ireland, they are painted red in the occupied part of Ireland (Northern Ireland) and in Britain.

Therefore unionists find it offensive to see what they would consider "Irish" postboxes in what they consider to be part of Britain.

Simple thing is, make the people who paint them or Sinn Fein pay for them to be painted red again plus a few hundred £ fine to put them from doing it again.

Im fairly neutral in this, i dont support any political groups in northern ireland. but i have to say the reporter is very very biased in this report. yes, this may be vandalism, but so is the painting of the kerb stones of red, white and blue, which is far more frequent than the post boxes. this is simply a protest to get a point across, and i for one would rather them protesting this way rather than violence. im not fully supporting the movement, but i am not condoning it
