Inside Guy Lodico's model classroom, students possessing various degrees of identified and unidentified learning modalities were empowered by a multi-sensory pathway to literacy and learning. Via an "Electronic Chalkboard" and multimedia-enriched instructional activities, Guy Lodico helped engender the development of his students' reading, math, cooperative learning, critical and higher order thinking skills as he challenged them — via the efficacy of technology — to construct / deconstruct knowledge and create meaning out of interactive/adaptive software applications, projected images, sound / music, voice recognition, and text; including speech-to-text and text-to-speech applications. Guy Lodico's collaborative development of a strategic multi-year plan yielded his successful design and implementation of the "Classroom of the 21st Century" and "Reading Through Music & Technology" literacy development program which earned him accolades for leadership and innovation from N.Y.C. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Chancellor Rudy Crew. His work led to P.S.102Q's selection by the AASA (American Association of School Administrators) as one of twenty-one schools nationwide to be identified as a "Gravity Breaking School" for innovation and technology as a result of the Council of 21's 1998-99 Delphi Study, Senator John Glenn, Honorary Chair. Guy Lodico's creation of a student/teacher produced educational programming series, broadcast weekly via Time-Warner and Cablevision's public access television networks, served as a "vital community information link" designed to help "communicate" more effectively with parents/community members; reinforce school pride, student self-esteem and academic achievement; gain additional funding/support from equipment/software manufacturers, and establish cultural institution collaborations.
