  • I haven't watched the other speeches yet but Hartmann's conclusion that we can retake the Dem. Party is highly flawed. It was never ours to begin with, and it never can be ours. There's a reason we haven't been able to get it to represent us for over a hundred years. (By "us" I mean us egalitarians.) You can't reform the 2 corrupt parties. They are bought and paid for. They will only be reformed by a movement for proportional representation and abolishing corporate media monopolies.

  • Hmm, I am wondering if you live in alternate reality or something. how do you explain Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, Byron Dorgan, Russ Feingold, Tom Harkin or all the freshmen who got in in 06: Jim Webb, Claire McCaskill, John Tester, Bob Casey, Sherrod Brown, Bernie Sanders, Sheldon Whitehouse. the phony DLC Clinton centrism is dead in the water: Hillary herself was forced to campaign as a progressive populist. Not that people bought it but that's the trend. defeatism is what we don't need.

  • Wow. Just finished watching all six clips. I learned more about how our democracy came about than I ever did in school. Excellent presentation by Thom Hartmann -- thank you for posting these!

  • One speach like that to each high school in America would do wonders. Too bad the conservatives would shut it down.

  • As in Vietnam, the only way to stop the Iraq & Afghan wars, is to defeat the US military. Here & there. Paul Kangas, Vietnam Vet. You tube: paul8kangas. Vietnam war began on 11-22-63 & ended May 1. 1975

  • Gee, I really don't know which tactic would be more difficult to employ: taking over the DFL from within when they are on the corporate payroll, or working outside the DFL when all the power and clout of the two corporate parties shut you out of the system. Maybe it will take people working both within and outside the two party system to really change things. I really don't know at this point.

  • I'm not defeatest, I'm realist. We must reject the Republicrats, just as Cynthia McKinney did when she realized you can't beat them at their game--at least not for long.

  • First of all, I don't think many of those freshmen are all that great. Kucinich is cool, even though he voted for the Afghanistan war, because at least he regretted it later. But even Kucinich is way too radical for the leadership of the Dem. Party. How come we couldn't get McKinney back in Congress? Why is Obama such a corporate douchebag? Why did only 1 democrat vote against the Afghan war, why did not one even read the PATRIOT ACT (or almost any other law) and then vote for it as if they had?
