This time lapse reveals the process used in a group of paintings I created which portray the digital output of Youtube's Mememolly. This portrait is one of a series which I am currently calling "The Distributed Self."
The idea for this piece came from an email I received from Molly where she used the expression "self-distribution." The idea of parceling oneself out in frequent and packaged disbursements to a cultivated and maintained crowd intrigued me to visually capture a collections of these allotments.
The painting took around 6 months to complete. In a method similiar to the formation of a "paint-by-number painting," I used Adobe Illustrator to help separate the screenshots into 72 colors. The painting which measures 36" x 102" was painted in oils on canvas.
