Interesting observation. Makes sense; nobody likes that kind of public embarrassment. I wouldn't want to face an angry obaasan!
Why is that that the chikans are tolerated though? Surely that kind of behaviour would override the tendency to not want to stand out?
As a Westerner I couldn't stand by and let that kind of thing happen. Hell, I'd really struggle with not giving them a slap or dragging them to a police station!

You know what, about that behavior of Chikans itself is gloomy.
And I think it is indicating Japanese "secretive" aspect,
I am ashamed of that part as Japanese.
In that sense, we need to express our mind more clearly.

Actually, in many case, the behind of "Japanese behavior", there are some reasons I think.
Mostly, I guess that those of reasons are strange for "Gaijin san".
But, it is the Japanese culture ne...
