This hymn was written in 1674 by Thomas Ken, an Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Bath and Wells in the Church of England.. With an emphasis on the Psalms Ken wrote this hymn at a time when the established church believed that only Scripture should be sung as hymns, .Obviously times have changed and thus this updated version, to use in worship of our Lord.
