  • THIS IS SO DISGRACE TO OUR CULTURE, I DON'T BLAME THE STUDENTS BUT THE MATAIS WHOM THEY PREPARED AND ORGANIZED THE HOLE CEREMONY. I SUGGEST THAT IT IS VERY SIMPLE, IF YOU DONT KNOW IT, DO'T DO IT.

  • @seuamuli First of all, this wasn't a "traditional" ava ceremony - it was done in their honor. So you're saying you would rather embarrass the guest of honor rather than provide them comfort? Doesn't seem very Samoan to me. So if the President of the US came and would rather sit on a chair, you would tell him he had to sit outside because of tradition?

  • hey guys dats my old skool... does any1 knows wot year this is....

  • This took place in 2007.

  • One of the bright spots about our school is that our kids do really well when it comes doing things like this for our guest.

  • They were over 60 years old and not accustomed to sitting down on the floor Samoan style. Also, it could have been embarrassing or painful for them to go down all the way to the floor.

  • This gives me so much pride - seeing Samoan teenagers well-versed in Samoan cultural oratory. That kid is probably no more than 16 years but has poise and dignity of a grown man..

living away from home I appreciate these videos a lot! faafetai

  • I see your point santaz01, glad you have the courage to speak your mind as well, everywhere you go you respect that culture, but what we do in spirit must also be done in understanding, in spite the spirit of the day and culture, they (we) must also be mindful of their (palagi) condition

  • @psilentzeo NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE, EVERYONE HAS TO SIT DOWN ON THE MAT OTHERWISE OUTSIDE THE HOUSE WHERE THE AUMAGAS ARE. THE ONLY PERSON THAT SITS ON HIS CHAIR (SPECIAL SEAT)DURING THE AVA IS THE MALIETOA OR WHOEVER IS THE KING OF SAMOA LIKE TUIATUA TUPUA TAMASESE AT PRESENT.
