"With the Blight over and done with, the Archdemon slain a year past, Iolena Mahariel is dividing her time between Vigil's Keep and Denerim. Most know her as the Commander of the Grey, but some rather refer to her as she is while in the capital city -- the King's elfin mistress. When she hears of trouble brewing in the lands given as boon to the Dalish, she leaves the month-long celebration to seek them out, against the King's will. She arrives to talk of apostates and blood magic, and her people willingly accept her help in returning the land to safety. The templars sent to take this family of maleficarum to the Circle are slaughtered, and any further pleas from the Warden-Commander fall upon deaf ears. So she takes it upon herself to help her people, to get rid of these apostates.

She soon learns that her peoples' lingering prejudices against humans remain as strong as they always have been. With a story so misconstrued and a very real, very different danger rising from beneath the Tevinter ruins at Ostagar, how will Iolena cope without the help of her people OR her King?"
