The Caissons Go Rolling Along - US School of Music (USSM) Home Study Course, Lesson 24

This video represents a milestone in my progress by completing the second booklet in the US School of Music accordion course (Each booklet contains 12 lessons). There are 96 lessons in the course. Six more booklets to go. However, the course progresses to a very high level that I'm not sure I can ever accomplish. The important thing is that I am enjoying the process.

The same piece was presented much earlier in the Palmer-Hughes course. However this version from Lesson 24 of the US School of Music contains some syncopation that I must admit seems a little strange to me. In measure 9 for example, the emphasis is on the second beat of the measure, not the first. This syncopation occurs in several places. I play this as best I can as it is written in the lesson.

This practice piece was easier to master than others at this point in the lessons, and for that reason I am able to post the video within three days of my last one, rather than the typical two weeks required by others. That is a sign of progress. Still, as you can tell by my serious concentration on the sheet music, it did require reasonable effort.

  • Nicely played, Leon. Watching you play the accordion so well after just one year is an inspiration to me and my daughter, we are practising every day!! Thank you.

  • @FunStuffAus I'm happy to hear that you are practicing. The world desperately needs more accordionists. I hope to see more of your daughter, and yourself as well on YouTube.

  • @AccordionLadyMi Thank you Fran. I do love my Roland. It was the best investment I made. It has good tonal quality and like any electronic instrument it is easy to record for YouTube. Thank you for confirming my progress.
