Leo Parente and ShakeDown follow-up on Chris Harris and Mike Spinelli's /DRIVE videos about the McLaren P1 [at the Paris Auto Show] and the Porsche 962C [at Porsche's Weissach Test Track]. Because the 2 cars tell the same story about how racecar aerodynamics and ground effects make for better cars.

Yeah, that's why he failed to win a drivers' title in F1 for 11 years (1964-1975) and then took another 21 years to finally win it after 1979.

The old man stuck with a front engine car in 1960 when it was clear mid engined cars were the future after Cooper's 2 titles in '59.

Simple garagist teams like Tyrrell with a fraction of the budget and facilities run eights around his cars in the early 70's

Such conservative and non innovative thinking has no place anywhere, least of all in motor racing

And yet McLaren are still the most successful F1 team... He has perfect credibility - check any historical source for F1 and you'll find he's correct.

Form should always follow function. I absolutely HATE fake air intakes (like the ones on mustangs for example). I do think that you get some awesome designs from just style focused cars, but the most beautiful designs are ones that actually impact the performance of the car while looking amazing.

Sooo, I love the P1... I actually think it to be a beautiful car, and the fact that it carries the knowledge of all that McLaren has learned through F1 racing just makes me excited. I have heard that they have limited the top speed and I think for good reason... Some people are thrilled solely by the top speed of the exotic cars... making the Veyron the ultimate... not me I want to see the greatest sports car to date and I think the P1 is about to blow every car off the fucking planet.

We need some cars that have the racing soul with all the tech, but if car manufactures are going to make cars that are all about the passion, the beauty and the drive then they should focus on that, as in today's market cars i feel are losing there touch with the looks, the market should make car that have the same passion for example the Jag E type or the 1961 Ferrari California.

Interesting lesson on Aerodynamics, The P1 seems allot more beautiful to me now, and I believe this is what Mclaren was getting at, its form IS its function. The science and the execution thereof is whats beautiful about it, without man intervening with his own ideas on whats beautiful,
