Right now I am specializing in stators that have either 1 big ignition coil (you see them more on 1980's early 1990's sleds) or 2 ignition coils like the one in my video. Newer stators (2002 and newer for most models) have a different design where there are 3,4 or even 5 ignition coils wound with much larger diameter wire and have a much lower failure rate. I charge $150 if you send me your stator to rewind. I have a couple of cores/dead stators in my bench so if someone had a stator that was destroyed (Maybe the recoil exploded, magnet in the flywheel let loose, stator bolts came out and it hit the flywheel ect..) I may have one that I can rewind. If I use one of my cores it is $175. Turn around time is 1 to 2 days after I receive it I will have it back in the mail.

  • yep, my zrt takes three pulls! my sled doesnt want to start after being warm, like i would ride it, and it wouldnt want to start until after it was cool. does that mean bad stator? also it doesnt have the best hole shot

  • It is certainly one of the symptoms of a bad stator or at the very least an electrical problem where something is warming up and not functioning correctly. It usually means stator, but can also be the trigger, coils or even the CDI/ECU box.

  • Forgot to add, just test your stator ohms when it is cold/at room temp and see what it reads. If it is 450 or higher, it is bad. If it is 420-430 it is highly suspect. If it is lower than 420 or especially when it is lower than 400 it is going bad. The high speed coil should be between 22-25 when cold.

  • I have a 1998 powder special 600 carb and i checked my stator.

    Green/Black 44 ohms

    White/Green 400 ohms

    White/black i got 444 ohms.

    is my stator good??

  • Most cat stators with the low speed coil spec of 450 the general ruel of thumb is: When a factory stator measures less than about 430 ohms, it usually is dying a slow death. I can say with a lot of confidence that with yours measuring 400ohms it is bad.

  • Blaine do you now the specs for a 1999 powder special 700 carb. stator? Could it be the coil? No spark and can't figure it out. I will get a multimeter and check stator, but was hoping it's the coil

  • @mcnamash your headlight sounds like it's at the end of it's life. I'd say just get a new headlight

  • @BlaineDP

Hi Blaine, any idea what the ohm specs are for a 1999 powder special 700 carb model.

  • No idea. consult your owners manual.
