Green T was there as Women from across North Los Angeles County joined together to help build six new homes for working families during Habitat for Humanity's first ever Women Empowerment (WE) Build May 22-24 in Pacoima.

This event was sponsored by the Gas Company, Home Depot Foundation, Citi Bank, National Construction Rentals, Mercedes Benz of Encino, Building Industry Association, Valley Crest Landscaping, MWD, the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC) and many more caring corporations along with the Empowered female community and those who honor them. These corporate and community leaders joined role models from film and television, to don pink hard hats and tool belts along-side the SFV/SCV Habitat chapters over 25 Youth United high school and college campus volunteers to demonstrate that women can change the world.

Partnerships included EIC's recently launched comprehensive project on science, engineering and technology in coordination with The Boeing Company under the theme "Ready on the S.E.T. and...Action!" This provided a keen insight for all the women into how important they are to the future of technology and the engineering so closely tied to our community needs. The added message is that affordable housing is a critical change needed for our communities. Stars such as Habitat Ambassador Arianne Zucker and other leading ladies from Days of Our Lives, Bold and the Beautiful and other hit shows demonstrated that getting down and dirty for a cause is worth everyone's time.

Thanks to Smallville costar Cassidy Freeman, BIA Executive Director Holly Schroeder and Chief Jane Suzanne Horton, each day was started with a motivational talk for women of all generations. Celebrity guests included soap stars Molly Burnett, Nadia Bjorlin, and Crystal Chappell from Days of Our Lives, Katherine Kelly Lang, Hunter Tylo, Sarah Joy Brown, Kimberly Matula, Alley Mills and Jacqueline McInnes Wood from The Bold & the Beautiful and Kate Linder from The Young & the Restless along with T'keyah Crystal Keymáh (Cosby/That's So Raven), Ananda Lewis (MTV/BET), film star Shirly Brener, and young stars Britt Hysen (Mad Men), Haley McFarland (Lie to Me), Rachel Bell (Suite Life on Deck), Madisen Beaty (The Pregnancy Pact), Natalie Dreyfuss (Rita Rocks) and Taylor Spreitler from the new series Melissa & Joey.Lunch speakers included City Controller Wendy Gruele, Arianne Zucker,

VP of the Gas Company, Patti Wagner, who spoke about the need for more women in fields that explore new and green technologies in the Gas Company's tradition, and special guests Astronaut James Kelly and rocket scientist Julie Zingerman.

Best of all, the women completed over $98,000 of construction work over the three days, raised the frames of six new homes, and raised an additional $65,000 in proceeds to support the construction of new homes for deserving families!
