Here are some common double stops built from the "chop chord" finger pattern. There is a predictable pattern in their spacial relationship to each other. That pattern is used in all keys.

  • what kind of strings are you using?

  • D"Addario J75's. Slightly heavier than the medium gage strings. They're the set that is endorsed by Ronnie McCoury.

  • Really Nice Video-you make it easy to ubderstand. If you start on th D chord is it the same up the neck???

  • Yes. Start w/ 3 fret - go to 2 fret - to the 4 fret - slide up use the 5 fret double stop. Also try to mix up the order, you will discover different ways to spice up the melody.

    Good luck... Keep on pickin'.

  • great lesson!! Very helpful picturing the relationships between positions

  • oh ok, nice. ya I play the J74 coated strings. I had the J75's before and they were a bit heavy for me, but that was back when I had first started playing.. So I might have to try em again, they have a nice full sound. Have you ever tried the Sam Bush Monel strings before?

  • thanks for the lesson. What make and model is the mando. It sounds great.

  • That's a lovely mandolin
