Hovercrafts at Ryde, Isle of Wight

Hovertravel operate the hovercrafts which cross the Solent in just 10 minutes, between Ryde on the Isle of Wight and Southsea near Portsmouth on the mainland. No it flies (hovers) just above the surface of the water or ground. The inflatable skirt is just a mechanism to channel the airflow!

Well, I've just turned 28, and I always found them awe inspiring. They still draw crowds of onlookers at every crossing, which is more than you could say for any other type of passenger ferry.
