@WhitepwrItalian1 Now your making excuses after making a bold statement. Of curse you can shoot anything damaged down. In fact a man on a skateboard with a gun could damage a 262 if it were parked up...
An urban myth, spits + P-51's in dives could just about tip a V1's wing. Gloster meteors could match V1's ant take em out, but even a mosquito (faster than any ww2 fighter) couldn't equal a 262 in level flight. I agree the P-51 was an amazing Brit fighter whose concept + reputation was claimed by the U.S. Ferranti Gyro Gunsight, spitty canopy, flush rivet design, R-Royce Merlin engine + design from visits to Germ + Brit aircraft designers by N. American. Without Britain there'd be no P-51.
@MegaBrits Lol, you do realize there are multiple instances a P51 and or P47 could take a 262 down right? If the 262 pilot decided to turn, an engine was damaged, so forth. I know that a prop aircraft could not catch at level flight, doesnt mean P51's didnt down any 262.
No wrong - Thats an urban myth, spitties + P-51's in a dive could possibly tip a V-1's wings but not take out a Me-262.
Even a mosquito (faster than any fighter) couldn't catch a 262 in level flight. I agree the P-51 was a British fighter whose concept and name and best features were claimed by USA. Ferranti Gyro Gun sight, spitty canopy, flush rived design, R-Royce engine + design taken from visits to Germ + Brit aircraft manufacturers by NA. Without Britain a P-51 would never have existed.
Ahhhh, the song of the Bristol Centaurus,to me one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. I would love to know how much she used during this routine. That was the sleeve valves achilles tendon, oil consumption.
@MegaBrits i didnt say they could go the same speed cause speed isnt always the only factor in a dogfight its mainly manuverability
