Actually this is a better method of deciding a game then pks and players from the old NASL would agree. A lot of them when they went back to Europe tried to convince FIFA to adapted this method. With pks it's to weighted towards the shooter. At least with the shootout it gives the keeper a far chance of stopping the ball. Wish the MLS kept this.
