/Review: A masterpiece that's been worth the wait/
By Douglas Smith.

Sheila left the Three Degrees in the mid '80s and so this, her first solo album, has been a long time coming. However, I can truly say that it's been worth the wait.

The songs and arrangements are bang up to date and fortunately the producers have avoided the temptation of turning Sheila into some sort of disco diva. This is pure r'n'b soul with Sheila's unique vocal style stamped all over it.

The opener 'Danger', in which Sheila proclaims 'Everytime I close my eyes I want to run away, run away', brings back memories of The Three Degrees' Giorgio Moroder classic 'The Runner' except this time around it's Sheila that's calling the shots.

Highlights include the single 'New Kind of Medicine' with it's sweeping Chic-esk strings, 'Feeling' Beyoncé eat your heart out!) and the George Michael ballad 'One More Try'. Only Sheila could take on a song like this and make it her own. This track and the closing 'After The Love Has Lost It's Shine' being most reminiscent of her Three Degrees days. Fans of 'Women In Love' and 'Just Leave Me Alone' from the Philly trio's '70s albums are going to love these.

Since going it alone Sheila has starred in her own TV comedy series, taken the lead role in numerous West End musicals and now it's time for her to reclaim her rightful position at the top of the music charts - if there is any justice this is the album to do it. Go Buy!

  • oh sheila i was a kid listening to 'when will i see you again' -som 35yrs ago>the 3degrees came to my country Malaysia in 2005 but y 'ready left the group. Still y'r always great doin solo or group..but i wish y can do a reunion just 1time like Diana ross with the supremes. For me, i prefer 3degrees. Always my favorite!

  • Ms. Ferguson, If I owned a business I would hope to find someone to run it in a way that I could totally trust that person in my absence. You are the kind of performer that I feel is so flawless that I could trust you to put on a show anytime anywhere and not have to worry about anybody not thinking you are the consummate voice. Woman, you are it. They don't come better!

  • This lady has it all. Beauty, class, an unforgettable voice and a smile that

melts you on the spot. Sheila, may you last forever!

  • I've heard this woman sing live at a stage show, boy can she sing and a figure every woman would envy!!!!!!

  • Love this Sheila.............great song, great chops! You go girl!

  • With due respect to George Micheal, I've always thought his version of this song was untouchable until I've heard this cover by Ms Sheila. There is definitely a soul in the tune which is what was missing in his version! Can someone ask this generation's singer to please bring back soul into the heart of today's music for old time sake!!!

  • @Jeremy1960 TRUE-DAT! VERY NICE!
