Elfiq Networks' Link Balancers are the only units on the market equiped with a LAN Failsafe feature (bypass) which enables the primary link and the gateway device (firewall) to continue operating if the Elfiq looses power. This unique approach is enabled through Elfiq's Layer-2 approach, providing a fail-safe in a fail-safe product.

  • Hi - in the 550x models the common port used for the failsafe for the ISP is #2, the firewall is usually in port #3.

The way LanFailsafe works is a "fail-close" process so if the unit loses power ports #2 & #3 get bonded so the network continues to operate. The ISP used for the process is what is refered to as the "primary link" (also known as the ISP link which was in place prior to adding the Elfiq unit to your network).

You add the other ISP(s) on port #1 by itself (for 1) or in a switch.

  • Where is the first ISP link? Which link is chosen when you are in failsafe mode?
