Location: HKMTR - Mong Kok East Station (KCR Lo Wu Line)

Capacity: 22 Persons/2000kg/4400lbs

Like the one at KCR Kowloon Tong Station, this lift is also a replacement one dating back to the early 2000s. However, the old one that was subsituted was a 1983 Hitachi traction model, which was too slow: even modern conventional non-roped hydraulic lifts are faster compared with it.

Standard type erose buttons are used. However, the floor indicator is of the traditional back-lit type. When the landing door is obstructed while closing, the special "DOOR OBSTRUCTED" sign lights up. A special staff key switch enables the "M" floor button to get access to the mezzanine floor.

  • The warning buzzar sounds different from the replacement elevator at KCR Kowloon Tong Station

  • The one at Kowloon Tong Station has now been replaced with the same chime as here.

  • Is the M level the machine room?

  • Yes. This level is also the staff zone not open for public access.

  • Have you seen any of those in mainland China? I'm going to Shanghai this summer.

  • Lots of these throughout the nation! OTIS has chosen to partner up with a Tianjin state elevator manufacturer. But Tianjin's counterpart in Shanghai is on the contrary a Sino-Schindler venture. Many New Chinese firms have learned of foriegn elevator technologies nowadays and managed to develop their own local New Chinese elevator brands. Even in ex-colonies like Macau there is one of such. In Hong Kong a few of the lifts used are local New Chinese products, not those by Sino-foreign ventures!
