The Blackstar Amplification crew compare the tone and feel of a Blackstar Series One 100 with the DPR set to 15 watts in comparison to a Blackstar Artisan 15H.

The pre-amp and the cabinet are shared giving as fair a comparison of the power stages as possible. The power amps are switched via an A-B box controlled by a footswitch.

DPR is Blackstars unique, Patent Applied For power reduction system.

DPR works on the power valve voltages to reduce power from maximum to 10% (and any power in between) without any loss in tone or reliability.

As DPR is a dynamic system it not only produces the tone but also the FEEL of a small valve amp driven hard.

Check DPR out on a Blackstar Series One amplifier today and experience the first power attenuator system ever that really works!

  • This should be on every amp there is. How does it work? Are the Blackstars with DPR cathode biased? Why only 10%?

  • I own both a series one 45 combo and an artisan 15 head and cab

comparing is not realistic as both amps are being driven hard in this video.

I need an attenuator for the artisan as it is so loud and find the tonal quality of the artisan is superior to the series one .The comparison is of a 100w amp on 10% and an artisan cranked.

In the real world for most of us even a 15w artisan is too loud and attenuation is needed so I have acquired an ultimate attenuator to achieve those tones.

  • John Locke!

  • I have a Stage 100 Head and was wondering why there is no control kbob for the midrange on the Clean channel but there is one for the OD1 & OD2 channels?

  • @jmanmango

I don't think that will be possible, because the DPR acts between the valves and the Output transformer as far as I know. So the only alternative would be an external attenuator...

  • Awesome tone from both.I have the series one 100 and love it,i have emailed some questions to the main address on the blackstar website several times but have never had a reply.Any ideas why Blackstar?

  • The Series One sounds cleaner, and less distorted ;P But that is awsome xD

  • very nice job guys...... I have an Artisan 15 and absolutely love it / will never sell it , till death to me part! In regards to the DPR will you guys be offering it as a separate stand alone unit in the future?

  • As the proud owner of the HT5 Head, amongst several other amps of all makes and price-ranges, I have to say this is one awesomely powerful and versatile amp range... and of course, they sound amazing! Buy them up people, they are tomorrow's Plexi's and Twins!
