Ainsley and Susan Jane Murray in the kitchen, sharing life's simple pleasures (ahem)
Deeep, deeeep pleasure....
Balsamic Baked Figs; ingredients
4 or 5 fresh figs
Manchego cheese, grated
A splash of balsamic vinegar
A wee trickle of maple or agave syrup
An appetite
Method
(1) Place your fabulous army of figs onto a piece of tinfoil, and preheat a conventional oven to 180 degrees,
or gasmark 4 (fan-assisted requires 140 degrees only).
(2) Split the fresh figs with a criss-cross knife-action on the top, and pinch its bottom so that all the lovely flesh squeezes up out of its skin
(3) Crown with grated Manchego cheese (a scrumtabulous hard goats cheese from the Picos region of NorthWest Spain)
(4) Drizzle with a smidgeon of balsamic and maple syrup. Agave is ideal for diabetics, as it is 9 times less sweet than maple syrup, and does not spike blood sugar levels
(5) Close the tinfoil around the figs, and bake in a moderate oven for 10-20 minutes, depending on your preference. Lipsmackingly good. I bet these would even make AA Gill's tail wag
