If you've just started you're gonna be good. 3 things to help: keep left thumb 'attached' to / against the middle knuckle of index finger. hit the rim as far out as possble, your'e getting too much head, 'fwappy' sound. in egypt they mostly call it a TABLA drum, it just means drum. : ) darbuka=turkey, armenia=dumbek, but there are a million other names too! keep it up, find a teacher. good luck. : )

i suggest getting raquys instructional booklet and dvd it will help a ton just google raquy instructional kit and you will find it
