Cash for Clunkers in Canada!
Press Release:
You may have heard of the successful Cash For Clunkers program in the US -- well, now it's our turn! GM Canada is the latest automaker to offer Cash For Clunker incentives to its Canadian customers.

This offer provides you with a rebate of $500, $1000, $2000, or $3000 towards the purchase or finance of a new, more fuel-efficient 2009-2010 GM vehicle when your pre-1995 vehicle is accepted into the Federal Government's Retire Your Ride program.

The Retire Your Ride program recycles your old vehicles and allows you to choose from several reward options, including transit passes, bicycles, car-sharing memberships, or $300 cash/vehicle rebate. To be eligible for the Retire Your Ride program (and therefore the Cash For Clunkers program), your automobile must be a 1995 model year or older, in current running condition, and must have been registered and insured for the past six months (12 months for BC residents).

Once your clunker has been accepted into the Retire Your Ride program, you are eligible for the $500, $1000, $2000, or $3000 Cash For Clunkers rebates at GM Canada. Rebates can be applied to 2009 or 2010 GM models, rebate amounts vary depending on the vehicle you choose.

Unfortunately, it is not specified which rebate amount is valid for which vehicle, so you'll have to discuss that at your GM Canada dealership -- but GM's vice president of sales, service, and marketing did state in a press release that Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac SRX and CTS Sportwagon are all options in the Cash For Clunkers program.

It is not noted how long this offer will be available, so if you're interested, take advantage of it soon before it disappears!

  • Good luck with that. It has been the worst Government Waste program in America in more than a century. Cars with less than 5,000 miles with no rust and in perfect working order have been destroyed under this program. The price of used autos that the poor rely on has skyrocketed due to low supply and many poor people can no longer afford a used car.

  • @firefox335 Now the cars which need to be taken away, such as my 94 Dodge Spirit which was rusting right through the rockers, 200,000kms, floor rusted, starting to run a bit rough and enough problems are the vehicles which need to be involved in the retire your ride program. I now own a 97 Volkswagen Golf with almost no rust. Canada has a much different way of disposing compared to the states though.
