It's fun to breathe in helium from a balloon to talk in a high voice, but you only get to do it for one breath. However, you can breathe in an atmosphere that's 20% oxygen and 80% helium indefinitely. NOTE: If you do this, you have to do it with a proper helium/oxygen air mixture from a scuba shop. Do NOT use a tank of pure helium to fill the balloon or you run the risk of passing out from lack of oxygen.

  • Helium CAN'T stay THAT LONG in the lungs! =p

  • @leo121297 Read the description -- each new breath we took in brought in more helium-oxygen mixture.

  • Uh... you could've died there from lack of oxygen.

  • @raiki15 See description and diagram at the beginning of the video -- The air we used had just as much O2 as the regular air we breathe, and we constantly introduced new 80% He / 20% O2 air into the balloon to compensate for losses and seepage.

  • how much does that big of a bolloon cost??? LOL!!!

  • @slimcheyenne We used a king-sized mattress bag, which was $8. The balloon didn't have to be totally airtight, so we just tied the end.

  • @yummyfuture Ah, sorry, should've watched more than the first 2 seconds before skipping to 33% :) two people went inside a helium baloon and actually died before they knew they were dying.

  • That is AWESOME!!

  • Doesn't it strike anyone as hugely ironic that helium is used by happy people to have silly fun and suffering people to commit suicide?
