a pal of mine wouuld make them on 1300 MHz in the 80's but would make them in such a way that whenever the link was interrupted at the FM broadcast side the transmission of the would also drop, if the officals would take down the transmitter they would not even be able to find the link signal
He used to be the technician for Decibel Amsterdam when they were still a pirate station

@SmashCOBamberg Sorry lost contact ages ago.
If you can build proper FM transmitters and stuff for 1.3 GHz then te rest shouldn't be a problem
1.3 TX with tonecoder or subtone coder.
1.3 GHZ RX with tone decoder or subtone decoder and digital s meter with leds
3m fm RX with s meter with leds
depending on how strong a signal you can get choose the the last led solidly lit and use its contact to switch a relais. in the 1.3 GHZ RX the s meter relais is in series with the (sub)tonedecoder relais

@Toudiyama hey that sounds awesome! Do you still have his email address or sth? Cuz I'm also into pirate radio and I could use such a link for my transmitter site

How much was the transmitting horn ???
How hard is it to make a radio microwave link ???

anybody wanting to know how to set up a station= learn the basics ( set up ,antenna placement ,swr, etc) buy a rig ,power supply, swr meter ,antenna, comp/ limiter ,possibly a stl (link) bang it up tune it up & off you go

@Afrotechmods 10 GHz is also a ham radio frequency, if I recall correctly. Hams use them for two way communication links and general experimentation to see just how far they can send their signal.

i want that !!!! ^%$#ing gunnplexor!!!
I've built high powered FM transmitters before, but I am curious to learn more about this 10Ghz link. What is it used for, and why such a high frequency?

10ghz link is so your transmitter can be up high and your studio a few miles away it works line of sight at 10ghz hence a little harder for people to trace studio locations when being used for unlicensed broadcasts - the sound quality is good on 10ghz and cheap and easy to make
