  • i don't get it... i heard that the downtown areas of the cities in SA have become filthy and intolerably dangerous, but in this video what looks like the downtown areas look beautiful and safe...

    can anyone enlighten me?

  • Sure, dont believe all you hear.

There are alot of bitter people love nothing more than running South Africa down.

Crime IS high, SA has big problems, but the impression of SA put out there by some bitter people is extreme sometimes..... as you can see with your own eyes

  • Thanks, you took me on a beautiful travel. Sitting in Berlin on a cloudy wintersunday at the computer and felt like in beautiful SA. Cheers mate!

Great soundtrack by the way :)

  • Brings back nice memories of my trips to S A - its a great country, don't believe everything you hear. Thanks for posting.

  • @deelite19 Yes... Let me see if I can be of some assistance for you. I have been there twice. The best way is to go there and experience it by yourself. Give yourself this chance of discovery. I love that country. Greetings from Brazil. South Africa is beautiful and South Africans a friendly people. Danger exists anywhere in the world today. Avoid central areas after hours, specially if walking alone. The rest will be fine. Enjoy that beautiful country. Best regards.

  • Lekker fillum. But Joburg city centre is dead. I used to love going there of a night at the weekend, but now most of it is not even lit at night. Scandalous. I could cry. The rest of Joburg, the environs, seems fine even to my unseasoned eyes. Check out my Alexandra vid, proving that if you hook up with the right people, a trip anywhere is possible, even if friends tell you it's a no-go area. And what is this superb song, I want to download it if possible!

  • The end of apartheid has obviously meant huge advancements for the people of S Af. This vid shows all sorts of fancy neighborhoods, shopping districts, sky scrapers and comfort that was not around back in the 80s. Congratulations to negroes for finally being able to demonstrate how well you can run a country! Nelson Mandela for Pope!

(sarcasm runs deep in my commentary)

  • The banking district in downtown Jhb has had a lot of money pumped into it and looks like a European city. But that is only because there are offices everywhere. So bankers, etc, will wine and dine in cafes.

Minute you go into the areas where there are flats full of migrants, things turn dangerous and dirty and it looks like an African city (usually resembling where the migrants are from). So you need to know what is where. But great city regardless

  • I love this song. Seventy six truly was not a very good year. Can anyone believe how far SA has come??! Unbelievable.

  • thank you. it seems like every book or article i've read, and everybody who's been there tell me (especially in joburg) that the downtown areas must not be entered at any time. my impression is that there are townships and suburbs built on the outskirts of large cities which now function as safe neighborhoods for the economically advantaged.

it is nice to know that at least some areas of downtown joburg is still accessible!
