While looking for a codec for quicktime i found this patch for QuickTime 10 or 7 that will let someone play WMV, AVI, DivX and almost all other non apple (.mov, .mpeg, .mpg) video file in quicktime. It is a GREAT app and you'll find yourself often using it:

If Divx Player is installed, and you now install Perian, then you must remove the Divx codec from Home/Library/QuickTime. Perian has an updated codec that compliments Quick Time.
And DivX has the same codec as Perin & the 2 will not play well together. So remove all DivX codec from that Quick Time folder!
