I'm still a bit astonished that Anderson writes lyrics so easily. As Palmer says, a big part of the Tull thing is the lyrics - they are so precise, and intelligent, so deft in their use of language, and to see him sitting there with a pad of paper making something up on the spot that will go on the album and be stuck that way ever after as "the lyric" ... it's quite the gift the fellow has. It's true also that there is something 'superficial' in them - the passing surface of a deep mind.
