No Ive seen a documentary about Sumo and other martial arts on the descovery channel and it clearly said on a few seperate occasions that these guys rarely live past their 50s

I'm assuming that flab is pretty much essential, but I can tell you with certainty that they are prone to health problems later in life. They tend to get high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, etc. so their life expectancy is 10 years below that of an average Japanese male.
