Teddy Vann Story on the Chancellor of Soul's Soul Facts Show

The Chancellor of Soul, Mike Boone presents a story on
legendary songwriter / producer, Teddy Vann on his Soul
Facts Internet Radio Show.

A native of Bensonhurst (section of Brooklyn, NY) Teddy Vann ventured into music during his teen years after he left high school early. He one day walked into the office of
record executive, Morris Levy of Roulette Records and
presented to him, some of his compositions.

Levy was very impressed with young Vann's work and
promoted and assigned him various songwriting projects
within the company.

His composition hit was a rewrite of a children's nursury
song (co-written with his brother-in-law, Joe Dong) called
'Loop De Loop' released on Diamond Records in Nov
of 1962 and recorded by a young singer from Leesburg,
Florida named, Gil Hamilton, who Vann christened,
Johnny Thunder.

Teddy also tried his hand at singing. He had a minor hit
in the summer of 1961, a ballad called, 'The Lonely Crowd'
on Columbia Records. He was also a lead singer of a
group called The Wheels, with a version of 'Clap Your Hands' on the Folly imprint, in 1960.

Vann made appearences on Dick Clark's American Bandstand but felt very uncomfortable performing in front
of a crowd. so he continued to stay behind the music scene.

Teddy Vann has worked with legendary artists such as
jazz great Lou Donaldson, Donna Summer, Estelle Bennett
of the world-reowned girl group and Rock and Roll Hall of
Famers, the Ronettes, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tony Fox and lead singer Calvin White
of the Sandpebbles, both from Calla Records.

In 1994, Teddy Van won a Grammy Award for Luther Vandross' recording of his 1967 masterpiece composition,
'Love Power', slash Vandross and Marcus Miller's penned
hit, 'Power Of Love'.

On Sunday morning, December 6, 2009, Teddy Vann
passed away.

Mr Boone. I have been a big fan of Teddy and his music, The thing I don't understand is that nobody ever mentions his great version of Pretty Flamingo on Academy records. When it was out it was a big hit in Wash. D.C. I am from Boston but I was stationed with the Navy in D.C. at that time. I have the 45 and have recently found a compilation CD with it. Why not upgrade this segmant and include this great song by him.
