Allan R. McCann, Charles Swede Momsen, and the events which culminate in the SQUALUS rescue in 1939. This is a slide show, with LOTS of reading, but after the stage is set, it is continuous photos of the rescue operation.

  • I was told by my father and grandfather that they were the fishing boat the "Flora D" that was referred to in the book that found the telephone beacon still connected to the sub and called the Coast Guard which help start the rescue. Would there be a log of that call somewhere? It seems no one believes their story.

  • I have read "Terrible Hours" at least three times, it's a wonderful read. Great video!

  • Just read the book The Terrible Hours Great Book I am an X submariner myself This put it into some perspective.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for this video. I'd never heard of the Squalus rescue until hearing about the book by Peter Maas. It details the rescue and give most of the credit fo Momson.for the rescue bell's design. The book is a good read & I recommend it. "The Terrible Hours"
