Warning, the audio may be a bit loud at first...

This video was already once uploaded a long time ago as a test, but I accidently deleted it. I've now decided to re-upload it. This is my Favorite CD Player I use almost every day; an old Magnavox FD1000 built in the early 1980's. This is Philips first CD Player, and it features 4X Oversampling Digital Filter with dual 14-bit DACs. Through oversampling it reached 16-bit. The DACs used in this cd player are the TDA-1540 chips. If you are a stereophile, you should know about these or at least heard about them. The Laser mechanism is Philips also-famous CDM-0 'swing arm' laser. It's built like a tank, and it definatly shows, since the laser is over 25 years old and still reads all CD's and CD-R's just fine. Most CD Players made in the early 90's have a hard time reading CD-R's, so that just goes to show you the quality of this CD Player here if it can read CD-R's Years before they were even produced.

This CD Player, even tho it's built like a tank (and really weighs a ton!), it is starting to show it's age. Like with any electronics, components fail. I had to replace some capacitors on the power supply board, and now it seems to be working like new again.

Also a random note, if anyone else also has a Magnavox FD1000, FD1010, Philips CD100, or CD101, I'd love to see videos of them in action if you have them :)

  • IS'NT IT STUPID to try and evaluate a CD player through youtube?????

i would like to know how great quality an ipod touch 4 produce compared to a CD player?

  • @HAWXLEADER

CD player will win, every time, unless you load lossless music files onto the ipod. Only then the quality will be the same.

  • Could you tell me, please, the name of the CD you played for this video?

    Great tune!

    Thanx

  • @mateusmo

The artist is Alpinestars and the album is White Noise :)

  • It doesnt sound really nice compared to cd players of 28 years later....really i am amazed there hasnt been a massive improvement in sound quality.

  • @titan57nl

SACD's, or Super Audio CD's have been improving the capabilities of CD's and players, but, sadly, it never really caught on and hasn't had as much hype as redbook CD's

  • @5irR4p70r

    Thank you for your answear.

I have bought the CD and love it.

    Thank u again! =)

  • Nice smooth sound. That thing is built like a tank. :-)

  • @cengeb Even though 14-bit DACs were used, oversampling allowed full 16-bit resolution to be realised. It was due to the oversampling that these early Philips players were considered to sound better than early Japanese models.

  • @jaymorpheus11 There's no such thing as analogue CD's as far as I know, all CD's are digital, unless of course you're thinking of laser discs.

  • Is it true this cd system uses analog cd's?

  • Sorry i misspelled!

it DOES sound really nice compared to playert 28 years later....so sorry....painfull misspelling.
