District 9 took the box office top spot last weekend mostly with the help of the older male market. G.I. Joe made another 22.5 million dollars putting it in second place and bringing it's 2 week total to 98.8 million. The romantic scifi film, The Time Traveler's Wife opened in 3rd place with 19.2 million.

Anthony Mackie will join Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in "The Adjustment Bureau." The story is adapted from Phillip K. Dick's short story.

Sony arranged for James Vanderbilt to write the scripts for both Spider-Man 5 and 6. Vanderbilt started as the writer of 4, but then Sam Raimi brought in playwright David Lindsay-Abaire to rewrite his version, and now Gary Ross has been brought in to rewrite it yet again.

Dreamworks has gotten the voice talents of Will Ferrell. Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill for their animated film Oobermind. Ferrell replaces Robert Downey Jr.
Fox is moving forward on "The Magician's Elephant" getting Martin Hynes to adapt the soon to be published children's book.
James Cameron is once again taking a risk at trying something new. as a way to introduce audiences to the world of Pandora in Avatar, Cameron is releasing a trailer set for 16 minutes to play on Imax screens. Fox knows that this move could create great buzz and chatter online before the Dec. 18th release. Fans can go to AvatarMovie.com to reserve tickets and find the Imax theater playing it nearest you.

Takashi Shimizu, the director of Ju-On and the English remake, "The Grudge" will direct a new horror film for Pheonix Pictures. The story will be about a haunted song that leads all that hear it to suicide. Shimizu is also finishing up Japan's first live action 3-D feature, The Shock.
Warner Brothers and Hollywood Gang Productions are developing a remake of the Sean Connery scifi film Outland.
In television news, for those fans that want to see more stories of the romance in The Time Traveler's Wife, ABC is planning to bring the film to the small screen as a series. ABC is also looking at the possibility of a series based on Clive Barker's Hotel. Barker is already attached to the project. The story will focus on the strange occurrences at a haunted hotel and how the guests and staff have to deal with it.

Over at NBC, they are looking to make a live action drama based on the 2002 comic book series Midnight, Mass from DC Comic's more mature division, Vertigo Comics.
NBC also just recently canceled The Listener, a fantasy show about a Toronto paramedic who can read minds.
Sony is cutting both the price and size of Playstation 3 to make the console more appealing to buyers. Sony will also distribute comicbooks through a new digital reader for the PSP handheld device. The release of the reader is set for December in the US and early next year for overseas. There will be a Digital Comics store with lots of Classic and New comicbooks from tons of publishers including Marvel, Archie Comics, and Image comics, through iVerse Media. Spider-man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Transformers, and Star Trek will be some of the comics.
Summit Entertainment and Creation Entertainment will be partnering up to produce a bunch of Official Twilight Conventions over the next 3 years.
Virginia Davis, star of Walt Disney's original silent Alice Comedies passed away this week. She was born in Kansas City, MO and first came to the attention of Disney when she was 4 years old. In 1923 she starred in her first short, "Alice's Wonderland" under Disney's first banner Laugh O Gram Films. She did some voice work on both Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio. She liked to remind everyone at the studio that it all started with Alice and not Mickey Mouse. In 1998 Davis was honored and named a "Disney Legend" for her contributions to the studio. Virginia Davis was 90 years old.
Opening this week is the kids film "Shorts" about a strange rock that gives people whatever they wish for. The movie had it's premiere at the Grauman's Chinese Theater which saw more kids on the red carpet than usual for a premiere.
